Mount Olive Police received a report around 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 19 that a vehicle had been stolen out of Roxbury, the department said.

The occupants of the stolen vehicle “expressed an intent to go to Mount Olive High School to harm students,” according to a statement released by the department later that morning:

The high school was locked down while all other schools in the district were sheltered-in-place as the threat was investigated.

The incident also prompted a response from the Morris County Sheriff's Office, New Jersey State Police, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Washington Township Morris Police Department, and the Mount Arlington Police Department.

New Jersey State Police ultimately located the stolen vehicle on the Garden State Parkway near Exit 64 and took the occupants, a 17-year and 18-year old juvenile, into custody just after 12:10 p.m., officials said.

The lockdown was lifted around 1 p.m. All after school activities continued as scheduled.

“We would like to thank our students, staff, families, and law enforcement partners for their diligence and commitment to the safety of the MOTSD community,” said Assistant Superintendent Dr. Sumit Bangia on the district's website.

The investigation is ongoing, and no charges have been filed. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office at 973-285-6200 or the Mount Olive Police Department at 973-691-0850.
